The memory of a viewpoint transformed into a physical object in a housing complex in a suburb of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The installation is an interpretation of my fascination for the dutch landscape. A landscape that, for most of the parts is completely artificial – based on land reclamation and strict planning for maximum utilization of land for the society’s infrastructure, such as; housing, agriculture, transportation, recreation etc.
Uitzicht thus forms an answer to the dutch ‘polder’ (land reclaimed area); an artificial hillside in the middle of an Amsterdam suburb, about 5 meters below the sea level. The basic structure of the viewpoint is formed by the floors and walls of the modernist housing complex ‘Het Breed’, in Buikslotermeer – an area which in itself is built in a polder.
