‘Perifer Flip’ is a site-specific installation in collaboration with Malin Persson realized at (K)unst (G)alerie (B)enedenlangs in Amsterdam.
The work is based on Malin’s figurative/abstract technique which she uses on her canvas diptychs. In these diptychs she paint a figurative image on one canvas and a squared rasterized abstraction of the same motif on the other.
In ‘Perifer Flip’ we translated this approach into an installation where the window section of the gallery functioned as the figurative part of the diptych. The abstract part is thus based on the window sections framing system, its concrete foundation and the view. We created variations of sculptural elements that can be assembled and placed in repetitive patterns, stapled on each other, or be split up in individual formations. Every sculptural part has a frame with a painted abstraction of the view from outside. All reminiscent of the building’s architectural structure and the courtyards greenery.
